Welcome to the Vestavia Lacrosse Organization! If you have clicked this tab, that means you are interested in learning more about how to get your child involved in the fastest growing sport in America! This page is designed to give you all the information to get your child started in Vestavia Lacrosse.

What age can I start my child in Lacrosse?

Typically, age groups begin in the first grade. Below is a guide to where your child would be placed based on birthday:

Boys & Girls 8U (September 1, 20010- August 31, 2012)

Boys & Girls 10U (September 1, 2008- August 31, 2010)

Boys & Girls 12U (September 1, 2006- August 31, 2008)

Boys & Girls14U (January 1, 2004- August 31, 2006)

(NOTE: All 9th graders play High School regardless of age)

Boys & Girls High School (Grades 9-12)

When does the season begin?

There are two seasons- Fall and Spring.

Fall Season:

Fall would be best described as an instructional clinic for both girls and boys 8U-14U. Fall lacrosse is specifically designed for NEW players & 1st year returning players wanting to improve their stick skills--a great time to try the game! This format is not recommended for experienced players.

REGISTRATION:  August 1st - September 1st

Dates (Sunday Play Only):  9/10, 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/15, 10/22

More information on the fall season can be found on gbyla.org

Spring Season:

Spring would be considered the “main” lacrosse season. Spring is a great time for anyone to start playing whether you have experience or not!

REGISTRATION: Opens October 20th of each year

Practices begin in January with games starting the 4th week of February

Most practices will take place at Sicard Hollow Athletic Complex (SHAC)

More information on the spring season can be found on gbyla.org

What team will my child be on & who will we play?

Vestavia Lacrosse is a member organization of the Greater Birmingham Youth Lacrosse Association (GBYLA). GBYLA is the umbrella governing body for all community youth and high school lacrosse programs in the greater Birmingham area and other various locations in the state of Alabama.

Here’s how it will work:

  • You will register your child through the GBYLA website at gbyla.org
  • After registration, your child will be placed on an age appropriate Vestavia team with other players from Vestavia.
  • There may be multiple Vestavia teams in each age group based on amount of children registered.
  • Since GBYLA is a community based organization, your child’s team will play teams from other communities and schools in the greater Birmingham area. These communities include, but are not limited to- Mountain Brook, Homewood, Hoover, Spain Park, Chelsea, Oak Mountain, Trussville, & Briarwood, to name a few.

Do I need to buy equipment?

For fall, GBYLA provides loaner equipment available on a first come/first serve basis at the field for both boys & girls.  ALL players are required to have cleats (no baseball cleats) & a mouth guard as well as an athletic cup (boys only).

For spring, you will need to have your own required equipment. ALL players are required to have cleats (no baseball cleats) & a mouth guard as well as an athletic cup (boys only).

Boys required gear: Lacrosse helmet, lacrosse shoulder and arm pads, lacrosse gloves, and men's lacrosse stick

Girls required gear: women's lacrosse goggles & women's lacrosse stick

(Gear can be purchased online or locally at LAX Unleashed in Hoover & Dicks Sporting Goods)
